Martin
Haggart — Explorer Scout
Leader
I started my Scouting at the 103rd Morningside Group in 1983 when I
joined the Cub Pack. I then progressed from Cubs to Scouts where I was
the PL of the Eagle Patrol, and eventually the Venture Scouts where I
became the Unit Treasurer and then Chairman. Unable to come up with a
good enough reason to let go, I then began to help out with the Scouts
as an Assistant Scout Leader and then became Scout Leader.
During my time as Assistant Scout Leader I managed to find time to
become a leader with the E.A.S.I.E expeditiion to Mongolia, where I
formed part of the advance party before spending a further four weeks
helping out with projects in the capital, Ulaan Baatar.
I was Scout Leader for five years and during that time we had four
successful Summer Camps to Kirk Yetholm, Killin, Invertrossachs and
finally Glen Sax. During my last year as Scout Leader the new Explorer
Section was formed and I felt that it was time to move on, especially
since I had two trusty assistants in the Troop. I agreed with Alan that
we would form the new Explorer Scout Unit to be fed from the 103rd,
25th and 9th Morningside Scout Troops.
